The Muslims were a SXSW/CMJ fav in 2008, bringing a raw brand of straight up rock to the otherwise current experimental indie scene. The Soft Pack is the band’s new name, which changed today due to rather vague circumstances. Regardless, both the original name and the sudden name change were enough to send me clicking around for some more info and some tunes.

The video for “Extinction” (a track featured on the band’s Vinyl/CD self titled 2008 release) was put together by singer Matt Lamkin and friends. “If you give me a gun/I’ll point at you” is no empty threat. The jackets for the LP were actually shot by a former NYPD officer. Like, with a gun. This reminds me of The Clash…if they got really wasted at Lou Reed’s house. And then recorded a song. Or something. It’s just a cool song. I was told I’m supposed to verbose at this age.
