The Weirdest Supergroup of All-time Award Goes to…
No, that’s not your high school Biology teacher on the bottom left. That’s Cheap Trick drummer, Bun E. Carlos, one forth of the newest and weirdest supergroup, Tinted Windows. Clockwise from the top, you’ve got Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, Hanson (I said HANSON) frontboy Taylor, Carlos, and Fountains of Wayne singer and “That Thing You Do” songwriter, Adam Schlesinger.
While this not only forces us to question the guidelines for what qualifies a group to be “super” (which I’ve already done ad nauseam for your convenience), but it gives us the opportunity to imagine (for at least a little while) what a group like this could possibly sound like. While many blogs have already written this off as a no dignity money project or torture music, I find it harder to classify without actually hearing even a note of it. I think many under-estimate the super-pop writing power of both Schlesinger and Hanson (who have other songs besides “MMMBop” that are, eh, not so bad) and will end up biting their tongues.
The band doesn’t make their debut until March 20 @ SXSW in Austin, and there seems to be no music online from the reportedly complete album. So now…we wait.

Nice post, I agree with everything. I’m shocked at how many people are willing to write off this group without even hearing the music. It makes me lose a ton of respect for my fellow music bloggers…
