Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival Preview, BEMF FTW

No, “BEMF” is not new internet speaks for “blogging everyday mthr fckr”…but I’m totally coining that. I totally BEMF. Pwn3d.

The Second Annual Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival (BEMF) makes it’s way to an old can factory on 3rd street on August 8, featuring performances by The Juan Maclean, Young Love, DJ Ayres, JDH & DAVE P, Jupiter One, Adventure, and a list of many others (conveniently located below). Also to be announced on the day of the show is a very, very special surprise guest (Diplo? is it Diplo?) on the promoters Twitter page.

An old friend of LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy (and signed to his DFA record label), The Juan MacLean recently released their third album, The Future Will Come, to rave reviews. Above is the video for his latest single, “One Day.” Juan (John) stops in to headline BEMF in the midst of a European tour, including a handful of DJ sets and festival appearances.

You may recognize Jupiter One’s “Countdown” from pretty much everything; video games, commercials, NFL something or other. I don’t know, you name it. The Youtube page for the song is a collection of “I heard this song on…” comments from happy hunters who have finally tracked down the indie-pop gem. We’ve got a catchy one here. Cool video too. ‘Sup L train? The band’s upcoming sophomore album, Sunshower, is due on Rykodisc in September.

As the late 80′s video gamers enter their mid-20′s, the inclusion of 1st generation Sega sound samples and 8 bit NES esque electronics become more and more frequent in music. The Adventure’s “Battle Cat” is another example of this freakin’ awesome phenomena, set above to a fan made video of Nintendo classics. SPIN calls The Adventure “Sonic Tetris..Game Boy Soul Music.” Confirm. This is as good as the original Metroid theme, and that is saying something.
