I’ve somehow successfully avoided all contact with The Dead Weather up until today. The second act in Jack White’s Mini-Supergroup Collection, The Kills’ Alison Mosshart, QOTSA’s Dean Fertita, and fellow Raconteur Jack Lawrence round out White’s new, badass leather jacket wearing, automatic weapon toting, rock ‘n’ roll brigade.

The band’s debut, Horehound (which is due tomorrow on White’s Third Man label), has received what many would consider “rave reviews,” including a 4 star from Rolling Stone (which subsequently makes me even more skeptical). Considering the definite possibility that I don’t like the new single, “Treat Me Like Your Mother,” or its seemingly badass leather jacket wearing, automatic weapon toting, rock ‘n’ roll video, I fear I may enter into Horehound with some pre-judgments.

I don’t think I like it. I am sad, though oddly comforted by the fact that Jack White is still cooler than all of us. (SG)
