Songoftheday: “Exhibit A (Transformations)” by Jay Electronica

“Candy man Candy man/Spit me a dream
Blow a chunk of the levee out/and spit me a stream
Knock a man house down and build a casine
a $2,000 government check from feme”
Almost a year and a half after the Just Blaze produced Jay Electronica track, “Exhibit A (Transformations),” was recorded, Funkmaster Flex plays the song on Hot97 after a Twitter request. Never underestimate the power of Twitter, I always say (no seriously, I do).
The track is tentatively set for release on the upcoming Act II: Patents of Nobility, which also features an “Exhibit A” remix (with Mos Def), and “Exhibit C” (released on iTunes in December and peaked in the Top 10 Hip Hop charts). Better known for his production work – most notably, on Nas’ “Queens Get the Money” from 2008’s Untitled, and for his own unconventional, 9 minute Eternal Sunshine beat – New Orleans born Jay Electronica is slowly being whispered about as the next great hip hop legend.
It’s pretty easy to see why, as this track, and all linked above, are overwhelmingly mind-blowing/flawless.
