Kenyan Superhero Makmende Goes Viral in Just a Band’s “Ha-He” Video
Makmende doesn’t wear a watch. He decides what time it is.
Electronic/pop band, Just a Band, based out of Nairobi, Kenya, spoof 70′s action films of various genres in their new video for “Ha-He” (former Song of the Day) from their Akwaaba debut, 82. The video features the character, Makmende, in a fictional film called “Makmende Returns,” and has become somewhat of an internet sensation in Kenya (and around the world) since the release of this video just a few days ago.
Directed by Jim Chuchu and Mbithi Masya, and starring Kevin “K1” Maina (a friend of the band) as Makmende, the video for “Ha-He” is being called the first successful viral campaign out of Kenya.
The band released an official statement regarding all things Makmende yesterday on their website.
