New Kids on the Block The Block
While I still can’t figure out how I feel about the return of NKOTB – and have heard one good track, and one not so much – the new album is here, and you know you want the deluxe edition.
UNKLE End Titles…Stories for Film
Fourth full length album from electronic act, UNKLE, that founding member James Lavelle calls “not a new album in the usual sense, but new music that has been inspired by the moving image.” Most of the tracks are taken from the soundtrack for Odyssey In Rome, an Italian documentary on director Abel Ferrarra.
Apollo Sunshine Shall Noise Upon
Third album by the psychedelic indie rock band. I am a big fan of the trippy “666,” and “Brotherhood of Death” streaming on their myspace. Other tracks combine many genres and styles that showcase the bands obvious instrumental talent.
East Coast Avengers Prison Planet
If you haven’t heard, there’s a song called “Kill Bill O’Reilly,” and it’s the lead-off single and video by East Coast Avengers, a hip hop group from Boston. If Eminem shared the same political views as Immortal Technique, this is what it would sound like. I’m all for radical politics, but guys, Keith was right about this one.
Young Jeezy The Recession
I already like what I’ve heard from Young Jeezy’s third full length, The Recession. Tracks like “Crazy World,” and “My President” are both catchy hip hop anthems and lean dramatically towards more politically charged subject matter.
Check out a complete list of releases at Newmusictipsheet.com.

The Game LAX
The Game’s third full length album, with the single, “My Life,” featuring Lil Wayne (what isn’t these days?). The album features production by Kanye West, Cool & Dre, Scott Storch, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and many others. The Game has also called this his final album.
Woodhands Heart Attack
Debut album by the Canadian electro-pop band. Their music is described as ‘Hot Problem Sex’ on their official site (aka their myspace page), and that pretty much sums it up. “Sweaty electro glory” indeed, this is fucked electronic music for the cool kids.
CitizensFOB Welcome to the New Administration
Yup, it’s a pop-punk mixtape! Available as of today on friendsorenemies.com, the mixtape features new music from Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is (sorry, I don’t put ellpses in band names, even if I’m supposed to), Gym Class Heroes, Cobra Starship, and other Fueled By Ramon artists. The Fall Out Boy tracks on the tape will appear again on their upcoming album, Folie a Deux, out November 4.
The Verve Fourth
The first album from one of the best British bands of the 90’s since…um, the 90’s. 11 years after the release of their last record, Urban Hymes, The Verve return with an album that is filled with subtle (and not so subtle) changes, yet still keeps intact the best parts of the band’s overall sound. You can stream the entire album on the band’s myspace page. Be sure not to miss “I See Houses” (though you really have no excuse for missing any of this).
Check out a complete list of releases at Newmusictipsheet.com and Largehearted Boy.

Dandy Warhols Earth To The Dandy Warhols
The 8th full length album from the Portland Oregon rock band, and first on their own Beat the World record label. Check out the video for the first single here, “The Legend Of The Last Of The Outlaw Truckers.” This is cooky.
GZA Pro Tools
The latest solo album from Wu Tang’s GZA, you need to check out his bangin’ myspace page. Damn.
Music Tapes Music Tapes for Clouds & Tornadoes
The latest offering from Electric Six and Neutral Milk Hotel’s Julian Koster. You can listen to the full album, streaming here.
The Stills Oceans Will Rise
Third album from the Canadian indie band. For those who loves guitars, the 80’s, break-ups, etc. Check out the video for the first single, “Being Here,”…here.
Stereolab Chemical Chords
The 9th studio album by the experimental and influential indie band, and the band’s first release on 4AD. More dreamy pop sounds, interesting arrangements, and fun vocals.
David Byrne and Brian Eno Everything That Happens Will Happen Today
The 2nd and long-awaited collab between David Byrne and Brian Eno. You can buy the record here in 3 different formats: digital only, CD and download, and deluxe.
Lykke Li Youth Novels
Debut album from the much talked about Lykke Li. Beautiful music and a voice to match (i’m never compelled to quite that cliche, but it’s true). Listen to the b-side “Tonight,” here.
Check out a complete list of releases at Newmusictipsheet.com and Largehearted Boy.

Clinic Funf
After 10 years, 5 albums, and a bunch of EP’s, Clinic release a collection of b-sides and rarities
The Faint Fasciination
The band’s 5th album and the first on their own label, blank.wav. If you are not into The Faint, you need to go see them live and dance, dance, dance. You can watch the album’s first video for “The Geeks Were Right” here.
Brazilian Girls New York City
Third album by the NYC based electronic band, incorporates more world music stylings, languages, etc.
Conor Oberst Conor Oberst
Bright Eyes front man’s anticipated self-titled ’solo’ album on Merge Records (not Saddle Creek). Recorded in a mountain villa in Mexico with ‘The Mystic Valley Band,’ and features mostly folk rock sounds, and at some moments is… a little bit country.
Check out a complete list of releases at Newmusictipsheet.com and Largehearted Boy.

Bodies of Water A Certain Feeling
Sophomore album by the Canadian indie band. Sounds like they bathed in Bowie and Byrne for days, and then dumped their own brand of atmospheric pop in the tub.
CSS Donkey
The Brazilian dance band’s follow-up to 2006’s Cansei de Ser Sexy. Fun and dirty electro-pop for the kids.
Low vs Diamond Low vs Diamond
Debut album by LA based rock band for fans of The Killers (side note, one of the first bands to ever send me a friend request on myspace, back when I still used to pay attention to those).
U2 Boy/October/War
Re-issues of U2’s first 3 albums, remastered recordings and a sh*t tone of bonus goodies.
Paul Weller: 22 Dreams
Latest solo album from former Jam frontman, Paul Weller. Features the single, “Have You Made Up Your Mind,” which has a very cool video.
Black Kids Partie Traumatic
Debut album from one of Rolling Stone’s “Artists to Watch,” featuring the 80’s Cure-happy single ‘I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You’. Catchy.

Beck Modern Guilt
This week’s Albumoftheweek…
Saul Williams The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust
Physical release on Fader of Saul’s 2007 digital only release, produced by NIN’s Trent Reznor. This album is complete madness of the best kind.
Ratatat LP3
The third album by this Brooklyn duo following 2006’s Classics. The first single “Shiller” was also released as a limited edition 7″ vinyl.
Albert Hammond Jr. Como Te Llama?
Follow up to the Strokes guitarist’s solo debut Yours to Keep, the first single and video for “GfC” for two thumbs up from My Poproks, if you’re interested.
Check out a complete list of releases for tomorrow at Newmusictipsheet.com and Largehearted Boy.

Immortal Technique The 3rd World
Immortal Technigue’s first album since Revolutionary Vol. 2, recorded with DJ Green Lantern (Jay-Z). “Selling AIDs medicine when we know you got the cure. You weary of conspiracy theory, but hear me.” Truth!
People in Planes Beyond the Horizon
I was a fan of this Welsh pop band’s first record, particularly the track “If You Talk too Much (My Head Will Explode).” Beyond the Horizon’s first single, “Pretty Buildings” takes a bit of a new, less raw direction for the band stylistically, and I’m not sure if I really like it much. :/
RZA Digi Snax
Wu Tang’s RZA’s fourth solo full length album, with production by David Banner. The video for “You Can’t Stop Me Now” is about as cool as fucking cool gets…
Sigur Ros Meo suo i eyrum vio spilum endalaust
Insanity. Beauty. A very new sound, especially on the lead off track, “Gobbledigook,” which has an incredible video you should watch now. You can also download the track for free on their site.
Check out a complete list of releases for tomorrow at Newmusictipsheet.com and Largehearted Boy.

Katy Perry One of the Boys
Super pop at it’s catchiest, I’m already a fan of both singles, “Ur So Gay” and “I Kissed a Girl.” Though the Avril comparisons may not be going anywhere any time soon. Read more about Katy here.
Tilly and the Wall O
The Omaha band’s third record on Team Love, produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley, The Faint). You know, they are the band with a tap dancer instead of a drummer.
Wolf Parade At Mount Zoomer
The Canadian indie band’s follow-up to the critics’ list topping Apologies to the Queen Mary. Favorites include “Call it a Ritual” and “An Animal In Your Care.”
My Brightest Diamond A Thousand Shark’s Teeth
Second full length release from Shara Worden (member of Sufjan Stevens’ Illinoismakers), whose vocals and arrangements creep these songs into your subconscious. The songs have a classic sound, yet are incredibly original and eclectic.
Coldplay Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends
The band’s failed mid-career experiment. Kidding.

Filed under: New Releases | Tags: Adele, alanis, jakob dylan, Lil Wayne, N.E.R.D.

Adele 19
Stateside release of the Brit superstar’s chart-topping debut. “Chasing Pavements” is one of my favorite songs of the year. An incredible voice and a solid debut record..
Jakob Dylan Seeing Things
Debut solo album from The Wallflowers lead singing son of Bob. Produced by Rick Rubin, the tracks are extremely stripped down to their simplest form – most just guitar and vocals. There are some strong tracks, including “Everybody Pays As They Go,” and “Something Good This Way Comes.” A straight up folk record not unlike one his father would make…
Lil Wayne The Carter III
It seems like this album has been getting pushed back for months, but it’s finally here – and it was worth the wait. And yes, that was really the cover. Featuring “Lollipop” and many more soon to be hits. Make me wanna lick the wrapper…
Alanis Morissette Flavors of Entanglement
Alanis continues on her lyrical journey of self discovery and self awareness with the follow-up to the kinda disappointing So-Called Chaos. Some of her best writing since Junkie and some awesome production via Frou Frou’s Guy Sigsworth- favorites include the single “Underneath,” “Not As We,” and “Tapes.” I <3 Alanis.
N.E.R.D. Seeing Sounds
While some of Pharrell’s solo work tends to be somewhat below par, his projects with Neptunes partner Chad Hugo and Shae Haley are never short of incredible. This is the band’s third straight badass release, mashing up all of their influences flawlessly. “Everybody Nose” will be on the Playlist.
Check out a complete list of releases for tomorrow at Newmusictipsheet.com and Largehearted Boy.

Ladytron Velocifero
4th LP by the English electronic band, and first release on Nettwerk. The band’s now signature hard electro-pop sound mixed with the dual lead vocals of Helen Marnie and Mira Aroyo continues on Velocifero. The album’s first single, “Ghosts,” has a cool video. Looky…
Aimee Mann @#%&*! Smilers
Aimee’s 7th solo disc goes back to the basics of her folk sound, which tips over to both new wave and country at times. Favorites include “Pheonix,” and “Columbus Avenue.” The album was produced by L.A. musician Paul Bryan. And is lovely.
The Cool Kids The Bake Sale
One of the albums I am most excited about this year. “Black Mags” is going straight to the 2008 Playlist. Details?
Weezer Weezer
While I haven’t been real sure of what Weezer has been going for post-Pinkerton, i think it mostly just has to do with writing catchy, silly rock songs. “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived” might be the oddest thing they’ve ever done. What’s a bit jarring is hearing the other members singing lead over Weezer jams. It actually manages to change it up a bit. In the end, I still love them. I think we all do.

Foxboro Hottubs Stop Drop and Roll
Did anyone not know that this was Green Day from the get-go? This is a monumental departure from their political art punk-ish of late. Straight up 3 chord, catchy, old school, garage rock.
Islands Arms Way
After an amazing debut (and some awesome Unicorns albums), Nick T and co. return (minus Jamie Thompson) with more elaborate pop songs and a weird album cover.
Mudhoney The Lucky Ones
Subpop release of the Seattle band’s 9th album, recorded in less than 4 days “from the rhythm up” and as rawly as possible. This sounds like it could be the band’s first garage tape. Not sure whether or not I think that’s a good thing.
Dresden Dolls No, Virginia
This has been pretty impressively anticipated for a b-sides collection. This album features outtakes and rarities from the Yes, Virginia sessions, as well as some new tracks recorded earlier this year. You can hear one of those new tracks, “The Kill,” up on the myspace. More details here.
The National Skin a Night & The Virginia EP (DVD & CD)
The documentary film A Skin, A Light by Vincent Moon shot during the making of Boxer (one of the best albums of 2007), as well an EP of b-sides, demos and other rarities. I haven’t seen the film yet, but the trailer is incredible.
Scarlett Johansson Anywhere I lay My Head
As I’ve already said many times, the David Sitek produced Tom Waits cover album (plus one original written by Sitek and Johansson) is a lushy lost-in-translation-soundtrack-ish record that transforms these songs (with Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Nick Zinner & Brian Chase…and um BOWIE), and I quite enjoy it. Scarlett’s deep raspy voice is totally likable (though only by me, apparently). “Falling Down” is one of my favorite tracks of the year so far.

Death Cab For Cutie Narrow Stairs
Besides a very long single that bored me to tears, I think Death Cab could possibly get away with this record. For some reason, Gibbard’s serenade no longer woo’s me. However, some of these tracks are very nicely arranged, and the sounds here are very different from the band’s previous major label release.
Teitur The Singer
Teitur’s debut album Poetry and Aeroplanes was a surprise recommendation that ended up as one of my favorite records that year. The Singer is sort of an odd collection of tracks, a bit unlike his straight-forward singer-songwriter formula on his previous two albums.
The Black Angels Directions to See a Ghost
Sophomore album from Austin blues, industrial, [something else dark and depressing] band. A solid collection of all of rock’s most fucked up psychedelic genres and eras. The spirits of Jim Morrison and Ian Curtis have been spending time and they are having a badass jam in hell.
Duffy Rockferry
The Stateside release of this already smash album in the UK, Rockferry (produced by Suede’s Bernard Butler – true story) is quickly becoming one of my favorite records of 2008 Q2. I’m not so much on board with the Amy Winehouse comparisons, but I do see where they could come from.
Check out a complete list of releases for tomorrow at Newmusictipsheet.com and Largehearted Boy.

Animal Collective Water Curses EP
Four track EP from the experimental indie band, including two unreleased tracks from the critics’ list topping 2007 album, Strawberry Jam.
Craig David Trust Me
The Stateside release of the British R&B singer’s 4th album, features the UK hit single, “Hot Stuff (Let’s Dance)” – which samples the David Bowie classic. It’s quite fun.
No Age Nouns
Technically a sophomore album, No Age’s Nouns is the follow-up to Weirdo Rippers, a collection of EP tracks recorded by the band in ‘05 and ‘06. The Sub Pop release, Nouns, showcases Ramones inspired messy loud punk and modern experimental post-whatever. That is not a dig. I kinda like it.
The Republic Tigers Keep Color
Is this the second time I’ve written about a band from Missouri today? The debut album, out on Atlantic’s Chop Shop imprint, is some fun indie-pop that you should definitely give a listen
Check out a complete list of releases for tomorrow at Newmusictipsheet.com and Largehearted Boy.

Portishead Third
Quite simply one of the best albums of the year, possibly Portishead’s greatest acheivement (yes, including Dummy). I absolutely love this. I’ve already gone on and on about that.
Dizzee Rascal Maths + English
This is pretty much considered a 2007 release at this point, but Dizzee’s 3rd perfect hip hop record comes out stateside this week via Def Jux, with 3 exclusive bonus tracks.
Estelle Shine
The sophomore release by British singer Estelle, features the hit single “American Boy” (that I don’t really like, for some reason). The album features production by everyone from Kanye to John Legend to Mark Ronson, Wyclef to Will.I.Am., etc. etc.
Madonna Hard Candy
No, I absolutely am not waiting overnight at Roseland to get into the Madonna show on Wednesday. That’s just silly. Anyway, a bunch of these tracks already leaked last week, and I gave them a pretty unfavorable mini-review. However, I’m sure they will grow on me, and I still love “4 Minutes.” It’s Madonna. EDIT: It’s growing on me.
The Roots Rising Down
The 9th studio album from the Phillie hip hop band. There may already be a video for every track on this, but I’m excited for the official release none-the-less (Patrick Stump and all).
Santogold Santogold
The debut LP from Brooklyn’s Santogold, an eclectic indie-pop singer following the footsteps of M.I.A.. Every track on this is incredible, whether it’s the pop/rock “L.E.S. Artistes” or the reggae/dance/electro “Shove It” or “Creator,” this is another of my picks for the ‘08 Top 10.

Filed under: New Releases | Tags: Atmosphere, The Last Shadow Puppets, The Replacements, Tokyo Police Club

Ashlee Simpson Bittersweet World
Ashlee Simpson pretty much annoys the crap out of me, but it’s hard to make a bad record with Timbaland and The Neptunes behind the boards (and Kenna? Interesting). It seems like “Outta My Head” came out about a year ago, but I still enjoy it. Some tracks like “Rule Breaker” and “Ragdoll” make it even more painfully obvious that Simpson wants some of that Stefani/Furtado magic to rub off on her.
Atmosphere When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold
The 6th album from underground hip hop’s Slug and Ant, also comes in a Limited Edition with a 40 page children’s story written by Slug (serious). If the badass album title alone isn’t enough to peak your interest, you obviously haven’t seen the “Shoulda Known” video…
Elvis Costello Momofuku
Costello’s bazillionth record, released under the name “Elvis Costello and the Imposters.” 12 new tracks from the ever-prolific songwriter, also out on vinyl on Lost Highway.
Joy Division The Best of Joy Division
A long overdue, 14 track Best of that also comes in a Limited Edition with a bonus disc of 8 Peel Sessions (John Peel Show) recordings from 1979, and an interview with Ian Curtis and Stephen Morris. “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” “Transmission,” et al.
The Last Shadow Puppets The Age of the Understatement
The much talked about debut from Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner and The Rascal’s Miles Kane. I’m already a bit torn on the single, and I think I’d rather hear these orchestrated tracks as punk rock tunes.
Tokyo Police Club Elephant Shell
2 years after their critically acclaimed EP, A Lesson in Crime, Tokyo Police Club release their first LP. Tracks like “Juno” and “Your English is Good” highlight the Canadian bands debut, which fit in nicely with Saddle Creek’s catalog of catchy, keyboard driven indie-rock. Dave Monks’ bright nasally vocals remind me of Placebo’s Brian Molko. A lot.
The Replacements Hootenany/Let it Be/Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash/Stint
The band’s first 4 releases, originally on Twin/Tone (including the 1982 EP, Stint), reissued in re-mastered and expanded form. All of the releases feature a ton of previously unreleased material, b-sides, outtakes, and demos (including Paul Westerberg’s original 4 track demo from 1980 for Sorry Ma). Next up are the Sire albums, including Tim and Pleased to Meet Me, out later this year.
Check out a complete list of releases for tomorrow at Newmusictipsheet.com and Largehearted Boy.

Tapes N’ Tapes Walk It Off
The long-awaited follow-up to the 2006 Indie Tastemaker favorite, The Loon, Tapes N Tapes solidify their sound on a well-rounded and melodic second record.
The Breeders Mountain Battles
The band’s much talked about new record, the first since 2002. Kim Deal, former Pixies bassist, continues to prove that she is more than capable of steering her own musical ship.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!
The band’s 14th studio record, a sort of concept album based on Nick Cave’s fascination with the story of Lazarus, as well as Harry Houdini, Jesus, and other epic subject matter.
Spoon Don’t You Evah
The single for “Don’t You Evah” from the band’s 2007 album, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, featuring the b-side, “All I Got Is Me,” as well as remixes of the single by Diplo, DJ Amaze, Ted Leo, and more.
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin Pershing
Catchy, lovable indie-pop about heartbreak, wanting to kill yourself, etc. The Wilmington, NC band’s first record since their beloved debut, Broom, and a very good one at that.
Jim Noir Jim Noir
Jim’s second album (and first on Barsuk), the English singer-songwriter is among my favorites, the album includes tracks from his 2007 EP, All Right, as well as new music. Noir’s electro-pop songwriting is basically as good as it gets. This record is an expansive, yet sharp collection of catchy melodies and innovative instrumentation.
Check out a complete list of releases for tomorrow at Newmusictipsheet.com and Largehearted Boy.

Kylie Minogue X
US release of Kylie Minogue’s 10th studio album. Her disco-euro-pop is known well the world over, and the US only bonus track, “All I See,” feat. Mims may be the track that finally gives her a bigger name in the US. (”Speakerphone” = my fav).
Moby Last Night
Moby is a lot less his ambient electronic self and more dance sounding on his 9th album. The album was recorded in his studio in NYC, and features guest vocals by Grandmaster Caz (”Rapper’s Delight”), among others.
Van Morrison Keep it Simple
Van Morrison’s 35th album. He wrote and produced the record, including first takes and a classic Morrison sound, as well as playing a wide array of instruments (sax, ukulele, etc.). He’s one of the most important songwriters ever, and his music continues to prove relevant. Samples from four songs, including the title track, are up on the official Myspace.
R.E.M. Accelerate
R.E.M. is back? Or so everyone says. This record is definitely a jump in energy from their last two studio releases. Recalls the early days; it’s the end of world as we know, etc.
The Black Keys Attack & Release
The new Danger Mouse produced album, already heard a couple of amazing tracks off of this, including “Strange Times
and “Psychotic Girl.” The band’s 5th, out on Nonesuch. If we could kindly ignore The Rapture’s second album, everything DM touches turns to gold.
Yelle Pop Up
Fun electro-pop from French singer, Yelle; the official US release of her 2007 album, Pop Up. Her new video for “Je Veux Te Voir” has Yelle dancing in a plastic smiley-face dress, pretending to work out, and taking a yellow hummer to a dance club. And it’s in French. Any other questions?

The short, short version. Do you? Yes. Do you? Yes. Good, you’re married. Kiss her.
Sorry…
DeVotchKa A Mad and Faithful Telling
From the band that scored Little Miss Sunshine. They’ve got a theremin. That’s all you need to know.
Flo Rida Mail On Sundays
Flo Rida? You get it. Next thing you know, shorty got Low, Low, Low, Low, Low……….Most Annoying Hip Hop Song of 2008 [That I Secretly Like]? I think so.
Daniel Lanois Here is What is
6th solo album from this no name who produced some stuff for some artists you’ve never heard of (U2, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel). Only one of the best songwriters/producers ever. Already being claimed as one of his best.
Yael Naim Yael Naim
You already know how I feel about this.
Be Your Own Pet Get Awkward
Anticipated second album from the Thurston Moore approved, critically acclaimed, crazy ass punk band. You know? Bicycle Bicycle? You know.
