The Drums wanted the video for album highlight, “Down by the Water”, to “directly reflect the song itself, and be as simple as possible,” noting that both the video and song are a tribute to the girl groups of the 50’s and 60’s (and awkward, ungraceful arm movements?). The Brooklyn band’s self-titled Moshi Moshi debut is out physically on September 14. (Stereogum premiere)

Wavves meet a Hipster Alien from space in the new clip for “Post Acid”, one of the many highlights from their sophomore LP, King of the Beach. That is also definitely John Norris, whose voice whisks me away to a time when videos were at least sometimes on MTV. (P4K)

Mississippi’s Big K.R.I.T. (next big thing via K.R.I.T. Wuz Here) contributed new track, “Somedayz”, to Cinematic and GFCNY’s upcoming mixtape, Good Talk Vol. 9. K.R.I.T. also hosts the tape, which features new music from Mickey Factz (of course), Nipsey Hussle, and others from the NYC labels’ rosters. Vol. 9 is due September 14. Poetry in motion, etc.

Watching Poe Picasso’s new “Inspiration” video jogged many outer-borough memories of corner bodegas, subway stations, city parks, public school playgrounds, Italian ice carts, and co-op apartments. “Inspiration” is from the Canarsie rapper’s latest mixtape, Exhibit B: Manifest Destiny (download here), and the video is a snapshot of your life growing up in Queens, Brooklyn or the Bronx. Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein destroys all of her stuff trying to make The Thermals “I Don’t Believe You” stop playing. I don’t know, kinda wouldn’t mind this song blasting through a dozen mini speakers hidden all over my house. (P4K)

VV Brown’s super pop gem and first charting Hot 100 single, “Shark in the Water”, gets an official video starring the cast of the new Teen Nick Degrassi (for whatever reason). The track comes from the English singer’s debut album, Travelling Like the Light, which was released this past April in the US.
