The Secret Machines have a new self-titled album on the way (well, minus the “the”); their third full length and follow-up to 2006’s stellar Ten Silver Drops. You can stream a non-album track from the new record, “Dreaming of Dreaming,” here, and download it for free, here.
Below is the tracklisting for the record, and the band’s upcoming tour dates for the fall. Supporting The Secret Machines on the tour will be The Dears (who have a new album on the way as well, and are sporting yet another new line-up) ‘Midwest through the West Coast’ and Small Sins (a great band that was featured on my first music blog, Myspace Music Review in 2006) in Canada. Tickets start going on sale Friday at noon.
Secret Machines is due October 14 on the bands own label TSM.

Duffy’s Rockferry is one of my favorite records of the year, and every once in a while it gloats about how good it is and makes fun of some of the other stuff on my iPod. I may even catch her October date @ Webster Hall. She’s recently added some US dates, both headlining and serving as the opening act for that band that you hate, Coldplay. Check out her latest video for “Stepping Stone,” here. I’m still not sure what’s happening in it, but the song is so effing good that it simply doesn’t matter.

I’m not that big on Kings of Leon, though I did see them open up for U2 once – and hey, it was a good rock show. The Whigs, who have made one of my favorite albums of 2008 (at least of Q1), will serve as an opener for half of the dates along with We Are Scientists. The Stills & WAS will be opening up the other half.
You can hear their new track, “Sex on Fire,” off of their upcoming fourth album, Only by the Night (September 23 on RCA), both on their website and their myspace.

God, Alanis, etc. announced a headlining tour this week in support of her latest album, Flavors of Entanglement. The tour is pretty extensive, going for almost 3 full months, making stops in the US and Canada. Since I’ve recently only been able to see Alanis open up for Matchbox 20 (don’t worry, we left early), and do a short acoustic set at Virgin Megastore for Chaos, I’m happy to finally see her perform more than 8 songs again.
