There is a song on Leonard Cohen’sOld Ideas (his first album in 8 years) called “Darkness.” That about sums it up. “Who’s to blame in this catastrophe?” he told NPR. “I never figured that out.” He’s a sportsman and a shepherd. He’s a lazy bastard living in a suit. Old Ideas is due January 31.
It’s been way too long, Santigold. “Big Mouth,” which was produced by Switch and Buraka Som Sistema, is probably very familiar if you’re into either (especially Buraka, who sort of lend Santi the verses from “Up All Night”). Talk that sh*t non-stop. Master Of My Make-Believe is coming soon.
“Somebody to Love” is the first single from Rusko’s upcoming sophomore, Songs, due March 27 via Mad Decent. Songs are good. UPDATE: Free download, below.
Lana Del Rey had a rough weekend, but her songs are still really great and the remixes can keep coming. So what took this so long? Clams Casino goes to another world for this demented “Born to Die” rework, which will appear on the official Born to DieRemixes EP due January 22. These two just go together. (Disco Naivete)
Sleigh Bells’ “Comeback Kid” is the official official first single from the upcoming Reign of Terror, and is slightly less terrorizing (despite cover art) than the previously released “Born to Lose.” The track is a free download with your iTunes pre-order of the album, which has been pushed to February 21 on Mom + Pop. The video for Star Slinger’s “Dumbin’” is pretty simple. Love story. Good looking people. What’s great about it is any reason to listen to this song, which is still a freebie over at Green Label Sound and hopefully on an album that’s coming out soon.
LA producer Henry Laufer. AKA Shlohmo’s debut LP, Bad Vibes, was inaccurately named (because it was most definitely good vibes). His follow-up, the upcoming Vacation EP, is so far also good vibes, as displayed in the auto-tuned vocal sampled “wen uuu.” Streaming below via the GvsB premiere.
