PS 22 Chorus Covers Phoenix’ “Lisztomania,” Takes Over Internet

My favorite hipster children’s choir, PS 22 Chorus, added a cover of Phoenix’ “Lisztomania” to their impressive playlist of pop/indie favs over the weekend. In case you forgot, the chorus appeared on Passion Pit’s debut album, Manners, and is currenty the best thing on the internets.

R.I.P. Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse)

Mark Linkous, also known as Sparklehorse, shot himself in the heart on Saturday in Knoxville, Tennessee, taking his own life.

Linkous recently collaborated with Danger Mouse on Dark Night of the Soul, one of the best records of last year. Above, the bittersweet “Don’t Take My Sunshine Away” sort of takes on a new meaning - from one of my favorite albums of the last decade, 2006’s Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain. Linkous struggled with depression and drug addiction, two factors that delayed that record for many years. He was 47.

R.I.P. Mark. Your talent will be missed.

Lupe Premiers 3 New Tracks Off of Lasers in Claremont

These aren’t the best quality, but if you’ve been anxiously awaiting a release date for We Are Lasers for the past 9 months, then these might be of interest. Lupe Fiasco premiered 3 new tracks off of the upcoming [someday?] album at his ‘Steppin Lasers’ Tour kick-off on Friday in Claremont, CA. “Scream,” “State Crime Radio,” and “Beautiful Lasers” are below.

It’s Lupe, so, as always, assume introspective, synthed out hip hop goodness. (LupE.N.D.)

Lasers is due ????? ??.

Lil Wayne “Drop the World” Feat. Eminem Video (Dirty Version) Yay Curses

Lil Wayne heads to jail on Monday, kids, but first he made 678 videos to last the year (or 8 months for good behavior). Before those start trickling in, Weezy decided to release a video for “Drop the World,” a tough single choice considering all those curses, but the above clip with Eminem is a good visual aid for the best track (by far) on Rebirth.

Motherf*cker, I’m gone.

Vampire Weekend Play a House Party in Barcelona

Look at this f*cking Barcelona house party!

Vampire Weekend apparently made friends at a local bar after a gig in Barcelona, and then somehow ended up playing at a random birthday party. Their impromptu performance of “A Punk” and “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” has luckily (for me and my mom, she loves Vampire Weekend) made its way onto Youtube -> SPIN -> Poproks. it’s muy bueno.

Wonder if Perez Hilton will find a way to trash them for this too (yawn).

Drake “Over” First Single From Thank Me Later Worth the Wait

It happened overnight. It couldn’t happen any quicker.

As promised (well, sort of. Thought this was a mixtape. Oops), Drizzy Drake dropped the first single from his major label debut, “Over,” last night at midnight over at October’s Very Own (file already ‘not found’). The track, produced by Canadian hip hop producers Boi-1da (Clipse, K-os, Kardinal Offishall) & Al Khaaliq, is streaming below/was worth the wait.

As of right now, Thank Me Later is set to come out in May.

What am I doin’? Oh yeah, that’s right. I’m doin’ me.

Mumford & Sons Cover Vampire Weekend’s “Cousins” on BBC Live Lounge

Spent 10 seconds widening my eyes to this rather transformative Mumford & Sons cover of Vampire Weekend’s Contra stand-out track, “Cousins,” on BBC Live Lounge before I decided it was the greatest thing of all time. OK, more like the greatest thing I’ve heard since 9:15. But still, great.

The UK folk band (hardcore, like, with banjos), are in the midst of a European/US tour in support of their 2009 debut, Sigh No More. (Via Music Slut)

Drake Dropping New Single Tonight at Midnight

According to Drizzy (last name: Ever, first name: Greatest) Drake’s official blog, he will be dropping the new single entitled Over” tonight at midnight from his upcoming major label debut, Thank Me Later. Keep an eye on October’s Very Own and be sure to check back tomorrow for the download on My Poproks. This is the end of the blog post.

Songoftheday: “A More Perfect Union” by Titus Andronicus

If Jersey-rock were a genre, it would sound like Titus Andronicus. The subtle (and not so subtle) influences of Bruce Springsteen, summers on the shore, classic punk rock, rebellion, and the Garden State Parkway mesh together to make up Titus Andronicus’ unmistakable sound. The band’s debut XL release is their second full length, and, according to the band, is heavily themed around the Civil War. The Monitor’s lead-off track, “A More Perfect Union,” is 7+ minutes of pure Jersey-rock. This didn’t grab me at first, but thanks for the sway, Blue Hoodie.

The Monitor is due March 9.

Estelle Can Be a Freak in New “Freak” Video feat. Kardinal Offishall

So, you have to log in to your Twitter to automatically Tweet a link to Estelle’s new video before you can watch it on her official site. Isn’t she the social media maven?

Not sure if Estelle’s new single, “Freak,” can do nearly as much damage in the US as Shine’s “American Boy,” but here’s hoping. No surprise that the Black Eyed Peas-ish drenched track was produced by David Guetta, and almost sounds like a remix of “Rock That Body” with a verse by Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall and a Soul II Soul sample thrown in for good measure. This is a hot, hot, hothot HOT dance track. Hot.

Estelle’s new record, All of Me, is due sometime later this year. No release date = boo.
