My Poproks 50 Best Songs of 2011
Hello and welcome to my year-end list. I started my Albums of the Year post about 9 blogmonths (2 weeks) ago and realized very quickly that the majority of my favorite music from this year wasn’t on there. For me, 2011 was a big year for songs. Albums, singles, EPs, mixtapes, remixes, remix albums, free [...]

Cults “Bad Things (Remix)” Feat. Freddie Gibbs
So, Cults are re-imagining their debut LP as a hip hop mixtape (proof). They started with “Bad Things”, one of my favorites from the album, completely rearranging the track and adding 2 verses by Freddie Gibbs. The result is wonderful things. Hypetrak premiere, below.

My Poproks Best Songs of 2011 1/2
Or 1/2 2011, depending on if phrasing/math/logic is important to you. This list is somewhat in order, but it’s not really in order. Also, #1 is definitely in order. Some favorites missing here work better in album mode (or came out in 2010, e.g.: Smith Westerns), and will see you later on the Best Albums [...]

FYF Fest 2011 Line-up
Not sure that you’ll find me willing to deal with another all day commitment to FYF Fest (last year’s will call line and warm bottled water weren’t the best), but that doesn’t stop the 2011 [Indie-punk centric] line-up from having some great acts that I love. Oddly not happening at Los Angeles Historic State Park, [...]

Cults “The Curse” Live in Brighton Coffee Shop
Me and Cults’ fantastic (every song is fantastic) debut album have been spending a lot of time together lately thanks to the NPR stream. Meanwhile, UK site Bowlegs (via GvsB) recently filmed the band at the Marwood Coffee Shop in Brighton performing an acoustic version of “The Curse”, a 2010 EP track available with an [...]

Cults “You Know What I Mean” From Debut LP
Last summer at FYF Fest (hot stinky warm water fest!), I saw Cults perform a handful of new, excellent music (plus a fav song of 2010) in what was definitely one of the best sets of the day. “You Know What I Mean”, the newest track from their debut LP (due this Spring on Columbia), [...]

My Poproks Best Songs of 2010: The Playlist
The only way to get this year’s playlist up later than I did last year was to do it on NYE. Luckily, I kept a running list through-out 2010 that ended up with about 100 songs on it (too many!), and had to ax a lot of favorites. So, if the below 60 song playlist [...]
