The National New Track “You Were a Kindness” Live on The Current
The National are still sad, guys. No real surprise there. The Brooklyn band recently performed in the studio for Minnesota Public Radio show, “The Current”, debuting new song, “You Were a Kindness”, in their 4 song set. You can stream the stripped down piano track below via Each Note Secure, and also check out the [...]

Clogs “Last Song” Video (Bryce Dessner and Matt Berninger of The National)
Clogs is Bryce Dessner of The National’s other band, an oft instrumental project with Australian composer/producer, Padma Newsome. Their latest record, The Creatures in the Garden of Lady Walton, features contributions from Sufjan Stevens, Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond), and The National’s Aaron Dessner (Bryce’s twin brother). Also, Matt Berninger offers that devastating baritone to [...]

My Poproks Best Songs of 2010 1/2
I’m well aware that the halfway mark of a year occurs at the end of June. However, it’s only July 23. Calm down! I don’t usually do my Best Songs of the Year in this format (I prefer less stressful, unnumbered playlists), but I felt compelled on my flight to NY last week to put [...]

The National at The Wiltern
(Photo via Losanjealous) “I’m put together beautifully/Big wet bottle in my fist/big wet rose in my teeth/I’m a perfect piece of ass.” The National entered the spotlight at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Friday night as you’d expect them to; upstanding, cool, dark suited and tied. Matt Berninger sings, “showered and blue-blazered/fill yourself with [...]

The National Do “Afraid of Everyone” With Sufjan Stevens on David Letterman
Sufjan Stevens (hello new album?), who offered backup vocals to The National’s “Afraid of Everyone” (and joined the band yesterday at their temporary High Violet Annex in NYC), performed the track with The National on Letterman last night. It was almost unmanageable. Full review of this album coming when I can form the words.

Songoftheday: “Buzzband Ohio” by The National
I still owe money to the money to the money I owe. Ohio natives, The National, debuted the painfully nostalgic “Bloodbuzz Ohio” earlier today on BBC radio, and Stereogum premiered the album version shortly after courtesy of 4AD. Looking pretty official with the above artwork as the first single from the upcoming, High Violet (May [...]

The National Debuted High Violet Track “Terrible Love” on Jimmy Fallon
The National gave a “super early preview” on Jimmy Fallon of the opening track, “Terrible Love,” from their upcoming full-length, High Violet. According to Stereogum, this hadn’t even aired as of yesterday. Nothing shocking to report here. Trumpets dance among a calm sea of guitar and piano as Matt Berninger’s voice scratches through the smooth [...]
